KP wins Master's Nationals

Well it has been a rough year for Kevin Paulk (KP) with injuries but sometimes luck comes your
way. Against all odds, he won the Masters National 800m Saturday. In the process he
finally beat the great World Record Holder Saladin Allah in doing so as,
unfortunately, he pulled a hammy in the race. KP is 48 years old, so it sure is
sweet to win against all those younger guys.

In he 800 KP moved up from 4th at the cones, to 3rd at the bell, to 2nd at "the flowers"
(typically the steeple pit - only no one planted flowers!), to 1st with 50m to go.

Blustry conditions and a very fast first 400 (leader took it out in 57
flat)made the end result times slow. But who cares when you win, his final time was 2:04.02.

1500 Finals Sunday morning - KP missed another Gold by a lean at the line -
.06 seconds. One more meter and he might have caught him. The race ended up in KP's favor by being a
tactical slow race -read 16 tired guys jogging thru the 800 in 2:30!!!  His 45-flat final
300 was not enough to outlean Jeff Mann at the line.

When you see KP congratulate him on a great finish to his season.
